INOUE HISASHI

(1934–)
   Inoue Hisashi is a playwright and comic fiction author. He was born in Yamagata Prefecture and graduated from Sophia University. He has had a prolific career in both theater and literature, for which he has won numerous awards, including the Naoki Prize for Tegusari shinju (Handcuffed Double Suicide, 1972), the Yomiuri Prize for Kirikirijin (The Kirikirians, 1981), and the Tanizaki Jun’ichiro Prize for Shanhai mun (Shanghai Moon, 1991). He has his own theater troupe and has served as president of the Japan P.E.N. Club.
